It is a well known fact the politicians often resort to downright lies in order to pander their unpopular schemes to an uninformed public.
“Jacqui Smith says public demand means people will be able to pre-register for an ID card within the next few months.
The cards will be available for all from 2012 but she said: “I regularly have people coming up to me and saying they don’t want to wait that long.
The home secretary made the claim as she unveiled revised ID scheme plans”.
For those readers that may be unaware of the scheme, a run down can be found on the Home Office website.
Why do we supposedly need to pay to have our biometrics taken and placed on an ID card? Well, to protect us from terrorists and identity fraud according to those pushing for them. Of course, we can trust the government with our sensitive personal data can’t we? How about the next government? Or the government after?
In February last year, when responding to a 27,000 signature petition on the Number 10 website, Blair had something similar top say..
If national ID cards do help us counter crime and terrorism, it is, of course, the law-abiding majority who will benefit and whose own liberties will be protected. This helps explain why, according to the recent authoritative Social Attitudes survey, the majority of people favour compulsory ID cards.
The simple truth is that there is little to no public demand for ID cards. As with many other things, this is simply the expansion of the state into the lives of citizens. No acts of terrorism will be prevented and fraud will continue.
In other news it seems that NO2ID have successfully acquired ReichsFurher Smith’s own fingerprints from a glass.
